The SettleWorth Check

Worth checking this week

A short list of Canadian settlement situations worth recognizing right now. The useful part is here; the links only take you deeper into each matter.

The question to ask

CIBC & Renaissance: how did you hold the funds?

There are two different official paths. First check whether the units were held through a discount broker or in another kind of account.

Discount broker

If you held CIBC or Renaissance mutual funds through a discount broker, the official claims-bar deadline is October 21, 2026.

Other accounts

For the non-discount path, former CIBC mutual-fund holders who no longer hold units must file by November 18, 2026. Current CIBC holders and current or former Renaissance holders follow the automatic path described by the official process.

Worth recognizing now

Big Steel Box

Was property stored at the Abbotsford facility during the 2021 floods and damaged by flood water? The reviewed claim deadline is October 30, 2026.

Fiat 500

Bought or leased a 2012–2019 Fiat 500 in Quebec and had a handle or lock problem? The matter explains the repair and reimbursement requirements to review.

Deadline coming up

Nissan timing chain

The proposed settlement is still awaiting Court approval. Staying in the class without objecting requires no action now. The deadline to opt out or object is September 25, 2026. No compensation claim is currently open; the approval hearing is scheduled for October 2, 2026.

One useful change

CIBC/Renaissance is now presented as two distinct paths

SettleWorth now separates the discount-broker path from other account situations. That distinction matters because the action and deadline can differ depending on how the funds were held.
